Celebrities With STDs: Stars Who Admitted They Have STDs Or Hepatitis C

Over the years, many celebrities have opened up about their health issues. There are countless stars who have battled cancer or other illnesses, but far fewer who have chosen to talk about diseases that are considered embarrassing.

While the Internet has its theories about which Hollywood stars are infected, there are only a few celebrities out there who are brave enough to talk about their STDs or their battle with hepatits C (which can be transmitted sexually in some cases, but is a bloodborne pathogen more often associated with drug use).

On this page, we collect several famous people with STDs.

Steven Tyler

In 2006, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler revealed that he has been fighting a secret battle with hepatitis C.

“I’ve been pretty quiet about this. The band took a break about three years ago and I’ve had hepatitis C for a long time, asymptomatic." he told "Access Hollywood." "And I talked to my doctor... and he said now is the time and it’s 11 months of chemotherapy. So I went on that and it about killed me."

Earvin Magic Johnson

Former Los Angeles Lakers player Earvin "Magic" Johnson held a press conference in 1991 and announced that he had tested positive for HIV.

"I just want to make clear, first of all, I do not have the AIDS disease," he said. "My wife is fine. She's (tested) negative. I plan to go on living for a long time," he said at the press conference. "I'm going to be a spokesman for the HIV virus. I want young people to realize they can practice safe sex. Sometimes you're a little naive about it and you think something like that can never happen to you. It has happened but I'm going to deal with it. My life will go on. Life is going to go on and I'll be a happy man."

Johnson went on to create the Magic Johnson Foundation to help combat the disease.

Pamela Anderson

In 2002, former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson opened up about how she contracted hepatitis C from her ex-husband Tommy Lee.

“When we got married, we both had physicals, we had AIDS tests, we had every kind of test you can imagine, and we were gonna tell each other what we had, because we’d just started our life together — what normal people would do,” Anderson told Jane magazine.

"And when Tommy did his blood work, the doctor told him, ‘You have hepatitis C, and you really need to tell Pamela.’ And the next time the doctor saw Tommy, he said, ‘Did you tell Pamela?’ and Tommy said, ‘Yeah, I told her, everything’s cool.’ But he never told me."

It was information that would have been helpful when she decided they could share a tattoo needle that would ultimately infect her with the disease.

Natasha Lyonne

In 2005, former "American Pie" star Natasha Lyonne was admitted to the intensive-care unit of a New York hospital for a variety of ailments, including a collapsed lung and hepatitis C.

At the time, her father Aaron Braunstein told Access Hollywood, that she was fighting for her life.

"It's a terrible tragedy, but she's going to get better. We're praying for her and she's a tough girl," he said.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2012, she joked about the incident.

"Oh, I thought I escaped under the radar," she deadpanned. "But everybody knows? That’s embarrassing."
